This client had experienced years of trauma before being adopted into stable, loving family. The client struggled with regulating emotions, frequently having violent outbursts for extended periods of time, sometimes over an hour, they were constantly stuck in a state of fight, flight or freeze, mostly fight. These outbursts were happening multiple times a week, sometimes happening multiple times a day, the parents were receiving frequent calls from school. Attempts at both school and home to teach how to regulate emotions and provide other calming tools were only mildly helpful. After a little over a year the parents were in search of something that would help. The client started NeurOptimal Neurofeedback sessions twice a week and started being able to use some of the calming techniques and voice how they were feeling with adult help but was still having moments with major outbursts although they were starting to shorten in duration. After 2 months of sessions the client increased to daily NeurOptimal Neurofeedback sessions. During the first 2 weeks of daily sessions the client had only 2 outbursts that were very short in duration (5 minutes or less). In the following two weeks the client did not have any violent outbursts and was able to use the calming techniques he has been taught when assisted by an adult. These changes have been significant both for the child and the overall dynamic in the home. The child is continuing with sessions and will hopefully have another update in the future with even further improvements.
